FERC Issues NOPR on Interpretation of Protection System Reliability Standard

On December 16, 2010, in Docket No. RM10-5, FERC issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NOPR) that would accept NERC’s proposed interpretation of the Protection System Reliability Standard PRC-005-1, Requirement 1 (Transmission and Generation Protection System Maintenance and Testing). The NOPR also proposes to direct NERC to develop modifications to the PRC-005-1 through its Reliability Standards development process to address gaps in the Protection System maintenance and testing standards, highlighted by the proposed interpretation.
