Author Chris Joyner Joined Balch to Discuss His Book, “The Three Death Sentences of Clarence Henderson”

We were grateful for the opportunity to host author and journalist Chris Joyner, on June 2, 2022, to discuss his book “The Three Death Sentences of Clarence Henderson”.

In his book, Chris details the story of courageous and inspiring attorneys who defended Clarence Henderson, a wrongfully accused Black sharecropper who was sentenced to death three different times for a murder he did not commit. Through this conversation, moderated by Atlanta office Managing Partner Josh Archer, we explored the historical accounts of the trials of Clarence Henderson and the ways in which the NAACP collaborated with esteemed Georgia lawyers to fight for racial and social justice.  We were inspired to learn of our shared history and ways in which our collective action can advance Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Chris Joyner is an author and journalist based in Atlanta, GA. He is a long-time investigative reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. His reporting interests include local and state government, political extremism, campaign finance, and government ethics.
