Steven Corhern & Kye C. Handy Serve as Moderator and Panelist at Joint ABA TIPS & YLD Section Conference

Steven Corhern, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, and Kye C. Handy, attorney in the firm’s Jackson office and member of the Litigation Practice, served as a moderator and panelist at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) 2023 Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) and the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) Conference on May 4, 2023. 

Steven and Kye joined other industry professionals on a panel titled, “Making Yourself Indispensable to the Trial Team.” Steven served as the panel’s moderator and Kye joined the conversation as a panelist. 

The presentation provided practical advice to aspiring trial lawyers on how to make themselves an indispensable part of the trial team and explored topics such as case management and logistics, preparing and keeping track of exhibits, using technology in the courtroom, preparing witnesses, and handling client communications.  

The ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section (TIPS) brings together trial lawyers from around the country who are especially interested in tort and insurance law. 

Steven joined TIPS in 2018 and is currently active in the Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee, where he serves as the social media vice-chair, and the Business Litigation Committee, where he serves as the newsletter vice-chair. Steven is also a graduate of ABA TIPS Leadership Academy. 

The ABA Young Lawyers Division (YLD) is the national home for the new attorney, providing members tools to navigate the early years of a career, opportunities to build a national network of peers and mentors, and vital resources to help members grow personally and professionally.

Kye serves on both the Resolutions Team and the Credentials Team for the ABA YLD. She also serves as the Affiliate President Elect for Mississippi until she takes her presidency in July.

Steven Corhern focuses on insurance coverage, mass torts, and class actions. He often helps policyholders prepare claims and regularly advises businesses on the insurance requirements and indemnity provisions in their contracts. Steven has also represented numerous organizational clients in “bet the company” litigation involving product defects, PFAS contamination, and civil rights statutes. 

Kye C. Handy focuses on general and commercial litigation. Kye has substantial experience in personal injury matters and municipality defense and has strong working knowledge of various types of chancery and probate matters. Regular assist clients with employment discrimination suits and how to navigate complex issues involving the Mississippi Tort Claims Act and EEOC regulations.
