Walter Boone, partner in the Jackson office and member of the Litigation Practice, and Matt Sitton, attorney in the Jackson office and member of the Health Law Practice, will host a Behavioral Health Association of Providers (BHAP) Webinar on March 17, 2020. The webinar will discuss two frequently asked questions to health care providers—who owns patient data and how that data can be used. Topics for this webinar include the role of HIPAA and SAMHSA’s “Part 2” in patient data and ownership, selling de-identified data for providers and electronic records companies, current legislation and state laws impacting behavioral healthcare providers, and increasing protection for individual patients’ private information.
Walter leads the multi-disciplinary team at Balch focused on the behavioral healthcare industry. He maintains in-depth knowledge on the ever-changing laws impacting the behavioral health business, and regularly provides counsel to behavioral health providers across the country.
Matt focuses on healthcare compliance with state and federal law, the structuring of business transactions for healthcare providers, and the defense of healthcare clients in commercial litigation and governmental audits. He regularly counsels institutional and individual providers to ensure contemplated business transactions are both profitable and compliant with applicable laws, including Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute. Matt is a member of the Mississippi Bar, Health Law Section and the American Health Lawyers Association.
