Balch & Bingham partner and member of the firm’s Energy Practice, David Martin Connelly, has been elected Vice President of the Energy Bar Association’s (EBA) 2021-2022 Board of Directors. The election took place during the EBA’s Annual Meeting and Conference and was announced by the EBA on May 24, 2021.
The EBA is an international, non-profit association of attorneys, energy professionals, and students active in all areas of energy law. The EBA advances the professional excellence of those engaged in energy law, regulation and policy through professional education, exploring diverse viewpoints and building connections.
Dave has been a member of the EBA since 1998 and served on the association’s Board of Directors from 2015 to 2018. He also has served on the Board of Directors of the Charitable Foundation of the EBA since 2018, serving as its President from 2019-2020. Dave, along with the new EBA leadership team, will continue to advance the EBA’s mission of helping those engaged in energy law further their professional careers.
With more than 20 years of experience, Dave advises electric utilities and their affiliates on legal and policy matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and U.S. Courts of Appeals. Recognized by Chambers USA and The Legal 500 for his energy regulatory experience, Dave’s practice focuses on electric transmission matters, including open-access transmission service, cost-of-service rates for transmission and ancillary services, incentive transmission rates, generation and transmission interconnection matters, and the provision of wholesale distribution service, both in bilateral and organized markets. He regularly advises on transmission and generation interconnection issues associated with renewable development and also advises on North American Electric Reliability Corporation compliance matters, including self-reports, spot checks, formal audits and cybersecurity issues
