Birmingham Business Journal Names Balch & Bingham's Jim Hughey Jr. Veteran of Influence

Balch & Bingham is proud to announce that Jim Hughey Jr., former Managing Partner of the firm and member of the Corporate Finance & Securities Practice, has been named a Veteran of Influence by the Birmingham Business Journal

Jim is the fifth Balch attorney to be named a Veteran of Influence by the Birmingham Business Journal in recent years, making Balch the only law firm in Birmingham to have a veteran recognized each year since inception. He joins past-honorees Greg Cook, Will Hill Tankersley, Marcus Chatterton and Mike Edwards in being recognized for his service and leadership in the Birmingham business community.

Jim received a J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law and a LL.M. in Taxation from NYU. He has proudly served in several areas of the United States military. Jim began his military career in the U.S. Army Reserves before moving on to the Alabama National Guard as a Quartermaster Lieutenant and then becoming a JAG Officer.

Jim served as chairman of the Firm’s executive committee for 19 years. He has extensive experience advising private and publicly held companies regarding corporate governance matters, business planning, mergers and acquisitions, compliance with federal and state securities laws, and general corporate matters. Jim regularly advises business entities for both owners and executives on wealth preservation.

Balch is proud to celebrate Jim and the many veterans who call the firm home. Balch has worked hard to create a culture that encourages, celebrates and recognizes military service, and in 2019 the firm was recognized as a Veteran-Friendly Employer by the Birmingham Business Journal.
