Roundtable Discussion: The Wire Act & the DOJ’s 2018 Opinion Letter

Scott Andress, partner in the Jackson office and member of the Gaming Practice, participated in a roundtable discussion on the Wire Act and the DOJ’s 2018 opinion letter during the 2019 Southern Gaming Summit in Biloxi, Mississippi on May 7 – 9, 2019.

The panel discussed the potential impact of the DOJ’s opinion letter and recent communications on online gaming, sports betting and the lottery in the states, including Mississippi. The DOJ’s 2018 reinterpretation of the Wire Act finding that its prohibitions apply beyond sports betting to all forms of gaming, is currently facing challenge by the New Hampshire Lottery Commission in federal district court.

Scott has extensive experience representing the Mississippi gaming industry and previously served on the Board of Trustees of the International Association of Gaming Advisors.
