J. Paul Compton Jr.

Paul Compton concentrates his practice on multifamily housing, as well as affordable housing and community development matters, especially those involving low-income housing tax credits, new markets tax credits, historic tax credits, and opportunity zone investments. He also advises on the regulatory, growth, and expansion activities of financial institutions, including merger and acquisition activity, enforcement matters, and the development of new products.

Over his 30+ year career, Paul has participated in hundreds of transactions nationwide, including a number of landmark and first-of-a-kind transactions. Paul is intimately familiar with the regulatory issues affecting financial institutions. Moreover, his tenure as a Senate-confirmed General Counsel of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C. gives him special perspective on the challenges facing housing and regulated entities.
