What do you find most exciting about your work?

Law is an interesting mix of the theoretical and the very real. I enjoy the challenge of taking complex legal issues and distilling them into practical solutions and opportunities for our clients.
What previous experiences, prior to your work at Balch, influence your practice?

Prior to law school, I worked in customer service and the restaurant industry. These jobs required me to problem solve on my feet and communicate in a clear, effective, and friendly manner with clients. I pride myself on applying those skills, in addition to my legal knowledge and experience, to provide the best client experience.
Which courts or agencies do you most often appear before on behalf of clients?

I regularly appear in state and federal courts throughout Mississippi and have also appeared in Arizona, Texas, Georgia, and North Carolina courts. Outside of litigation, I have practiced before the Mississippi Public Service Commission.

Litigation: Obtained a series of orders compelling arbitration on behalf of a manufacturer in multiple lawsuits alleging product liability and negligence claims.
Litigation: Won transfer and subsequent dismissal of complaint alleging that plaintiff won the Powerball on behalf of state lottery.
Litigation: Represented lender in obtaining appointment of state-court receiver over apartment complexes following apartment complex borrowers’ default of loan obligations.
Litigation: Primary drafter of a series of motions for summary judgment in multiple related lawsuits which resulted in the dismissal of toxic tort plaintiffs’ tort and statutory claims as well as mental distress, punitive, and attorneys’ fees claims, reducing client’s potential liability by millions of dollars.
Insurance: Key member of litigation team which obtained settlement from insurance broker on behalf of manufacturing client based on negligent failure to procure insurance.
Insurance: Prepared coverage opinion, declaratory judgment complaint, and motion for summary judgment on behalf of insurer where its municipal insured faced millions of dollars in liability arising from dozens of related individual and class-based underlying lawsuits.
Regulatory: Represented company before the Mississippi Public Service Commission in obtaining a certificate of public convenience and necessity to provide facilities-based and resold local exchange and interexchange telecommunications services.
