NERC Submits EPRI Technical Report on Vegetation Clearance Distances

On August 12, 2015, in Docket No. RM12-4, NERC submitted the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) report titled "Supplemental Testing to Confirm or Refine Gap Factor Utilized in Calculation of Minimum Vegetation Clearance Distances ("MVCD"): Tests: Results and Analysis." The EPRI report describes the results of testing to determine the appropriate clearance distance between conductors and trees for purposes of determining the appropriate vegetation clearance distances in Reliability Standard FAC-003-2. NERC intendes to use the report's findings to initiate a Standards Authorization Request to adjust the minimum clearance values in FAC-003-2.
