Tom DeLawrence, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Environmental & Natural Resource Practice, and Lee Johnsey, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Real Estate Practice, will speak at the third annual Environmental Professionals’ Conference in Pelham, Alabama on February 26, 2019.
Tom and Lee will discuss the topics of brownfield sites and Opportunity Zones. Brownfield sites, a term used to describe property whose viability is affected by environmental challenges, and the Opportunity Zones program, a recent congressional initiative that incentivizes investments in financially stressed communities, are receiving significant attention across multiple industries.
The Environmental Professionals’ Conference is sponsored by the Birmingham and North Alabama chapters of the Environmental Professionals’ Association. Topics cover the latest trends and news related to environmental practices and are aimed to equip professionals in overcoming the unique challenges of their industry.
Tom focuses his legal practice on national and state level environmental issues, with emphasis on administrative, legislative, enforcement/litigation, and compliance matters under the Clean Water Act (CWA), Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Tom has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America and is a graduate of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum.
Lee focuses on the acquisition, development, ownership, management and disposition of real estate, unsecured and secured lending, corporate matters, gaming finance and operation, and tax sales. He is looked to for his deep experience on Opportunity Zones’ regulation and implementation. Lee has been recognized as a Rising Star Lawyer by the Birmingham Business Journal in 2018 and as a Top Attorney by Birmingham Magazine in 2017 and 2018.
