Debra Lewis Quoted by Birmingham Business Journal About Ways M&A in Neighboring States Can Benefit Alabama Banks

Debra Lewis, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Banking & Financial Services Practice, was quoted in a Birmingham Business Journal article “M&A Deals Thinning the Ranks of Alabama-based Banks” published on July 29, 2019. Drawing on her 30 years of experience representing national, regional, and community banks in regulatory, compliance, and transactional matters, Debra commented on how M&A in neighboring states could benefit Alabama by increasing competition. The article reports that due to the increasing depository and lending opportunities in Florida, many banks are looking to expand into that market. 

Debra has served as program chair for the American Bar Association’s Banking Law Committee and is a current a member of the ABA’s Consumer Financial Services Committee and the Trust Indentures & Indenture Trustees Committee. Additionally, she has served in multiple leadership roles in the National Association of Bond Lawyers, including as co-chair of its Municipal Finance Committee.
