Christy Crockett White Presents Important FLSA Updates to Mississippi Library Directors

Christy Crockett White, partner in the Jackson office and member of the firm’s Litigation and Labor & Employment Practices, presented “It’s Time for a Renewal: 2020 FLSA Update” to a group of public library directors in Jackson, Mississippi on February 20, 2020. During her presentation, Christy discussed the new regulations regarding the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which went into effect January of 2020. These updates impact the minimum salary threshold necessary to exempt executive, administrative and professional employees. 

Christy highlighted relevant exemptions for professional, executive and administrative personnel, and the separate job responsibilities that accompany each position. She also noted best practices and employer obligations regarding the management of remote and flex time workers, as well as part-timers, temps and interns. Additionally covered, the implementation of gig economy workers. These include independent contractors with instantaneous, flexible, autonomous and short-term work.

For almost 25 years, Christy has been advising clients on labor and employment law. She counsels clients on hiring, employment contracts, and accommodations for disabilities, requests for leave, workers’ compensation, discipline, terminations, wrongful termination, severance packages, discrimination, harassment, covenants not to compete, and claims for unemployment benefits.
