David Martin Connelly Elected President of Energy Bar Association

David Martin Connelly, partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office and member of the Energy Practice, was elected President of the Energy Bar Association (EBA) at the EBA’s 2023 Annual Meeting. The EBA is an international non-profit bar association that brings together attorneys, energy professionals, and students involved in various aspects of energy law.

Dave will serve as the President for the 2023-2024 EBA year.

The EBA aims to advance the professional excellence of those engaged in energy law, regulation and policy through professional education, exploring diverse viewpoints and building connections.

“As energy attorneys and energy professionals, the work we do impacts millions of people and the health of our economy,” Dave said. “Through the EBA, we have opportunities to learn from each other and to forge relationships that help us be the best advocates that we can be for our clients and our organizations. Joining the EBA was one of the best decisions that I made as a new attorney, and during my term as President, I plan to continue strengthening the value of EBA membership for both experienced practitioners and new energy industry participants.”

The EBA hosts numerous educational events in person and virtually throughout the year, including two national conferences.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dave advises electric utilities and their affiliates on legal and policy matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and U.S. Courts of Appeals. His practice focuses on electric transmission matters, including open-access transmission service, cost-of-service rates for transmission and ancillary services, incentive transmission rates, generation and transmission interconnection matters, and the provision of wholesale distribution service, both in bilateral and organized markets. He regularly advises on transmission and generation interconnection issues associated with renewable development and also advises on North American Electric Reliability Corporation compliance matters, including self-reports, spot checks, formal audits, and cybersecurity issues.
