Balch & Bingham Celebrates 2026 Pro Bono Week
At Balch & Bingham, we are committed to expanding equal access within the legal system to the most vulnerable members of our communities, and proud to join the American Bar Association in its 2026 National Celebration of Pro Bono.
“The strength of our legal system depends in part on whether people can access it when they need help,” said Stan Blanton, managing partner of Balch & Bingham. “Pro bono service is not separate from our role as lawyers; it is part of the responsibility that comes with it. By giving their time and experience, our attorneys help individuals, families and organizations protect their rights, find stability and move forward. That work expands access to justice and strengthens the communities our legal system is meant to serve.”
Through community partnerships, Balch attorneys have supported children and families in need; nonprofits facing hurdles as they work to serve their neighbors; tenants facing unsafe living conditions; individuals needing help with trusts and estates; and others seeking legal guidance to overcome barriers and improve their lives.
Additionally, our attorneys have supported 50 businesses over the past year through Balch Business Boost, the program Balch created to help emerging and small disadvantaged businesses by providing free or low-cost legal services.
As part of the 2026 National Celebration of Pro Bono, Balch partner Walter Boone shares why he prioritizes pro bono work as part of his practice.
TRANSCRIPT:
Most of us went to law school because we wanted to make the world a better place.
I've been fortunate enough to keep that a significant chunk of my effort because I think it's important. It's why I went to law school. I think it's why we're lawyers and I think it's why the legal profession in particular is different from other professions because we have built into, baked into our system the obligation to do pro bono work. It's the only profession like it that has that obligation.
And there is nothing better to be honest with you than the feeling of actually helping somebody navigate through their problems through the legal system. It's the best feeling you can get and it's free.
