Law360 Highlights Depth of Balch’s Nuclear Energy Practice in Coverage of Colleen Grygier’s Arrival
Law360 featured the arrival of partner Colleen Grygier to Balch’s Washington, D.C., office, highlighting both the experience she brings to the firm and the depth of the Nuclear Energy Practice she has joined.
In the October 21 article, Colleen discussed her decision to join Balch, pointing to the team’s industry knowledge, collaborative approach and experience helping clients move nuclear projects from early development through construction and into commercial operation.
“Balch & Bingham is the only firm that has been counsel from project development, initial licensing, construction and all the way through commercial operation of a new nuclear plant in the last 40 years,” Law360 quoted Colleen as saying. “That experience is highly valuable to clients developing new projects today.”
The article also highlighted Balch’s work supporting nuclear projects in the United States and Europe, including regulatory approvals, financing, construction contracts and operational compliance. Colleen said the team “understands the companies, technologies and practical challenges involved in advancing projects in the U.S. and internationally.”
Drawing on her own experience advising reactor technology developers and utilities, Colleen discussed what successful project execution requires from legal advisers.
“Successful nuclear energy projects, both in the U.S. and internationally, will need advisors who can take a collaborative approach with all parties involved, and who can be creative and pragmatic with contract structures to appropriately allocate the key risks of each project,” she said.
Colleen brings more than 20 years of experience in industry and private practice, including in-house roles at two major nuclear power companies. Her transactional experience with a wide variety of commercial agreements (including development of an integrated project delivery agreement), construction contracts, fuel procurement and supply chain development further strengthens the team’s ability to support clients developing nuclear projects.
