Jason Tompkins Discusses Fair Credit Reporting Act Litigation Trends in AccountsRecovery.net Webinar

Jason Tompkins, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Consumer Finance Compliance & Defense Practice, presented during an AccountsRecovery.net webinar titled “Breaking Down FCRA Lawsuit Trends” on February 11, 2026.

The program examined developments in Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) litigation, one of the most active areas of consumer law. Jason joined panelists in discussing emerging claims, what future claims may look like under the FCRA, and practical steps companies can take to mitigate litigation risk across the credit and collection ecosystem.

Jason focuses a significant portion of his practice on class action defense, particularly in the area of consumer finance litigation. He has been lead counsel on more than 80 class actions and hundreds of individual cases involving claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). He acts as regional and national counsel for several financial services clients who trust him to coordinate defense strategy across numerous jurisdictions—both at the trial and appellate levels. Jason also guides clients faced with investigations by regulators or attorneys general regarding consumer issues, as well as providing compliance advice under the state and federal consumer finance laws.

Jason also serves as Chair of the firm’s Issues and Appeals Practice, and has extensive experience handling litigation and appeals in federal and state courts, including serving as counsel in the United States Supreme Court. He has been recognized for excellence by The Best Lawyers in America®, Benchmark Litigation, and Mid-South Super Lawyers
