Balch & Bingham Celebrates International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month with Day of Service

In honor of International Women’s Day, which is recognized worldwide on March 8, 2019, and Women’s History Month, which is celebrated in the U.S. throughout March, Balch & Bingham’s Women’s Initiative will host a day of service to celebrate and support organizations in our communities that empower women and work to make a difference to improve lives.

International Women’s Day is a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Women’s History Month is dedicated to commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.

“Balch’s Women’s Initiative is committed to helping women achieve success and we are thrilled to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month by joining with our clients and friends at a day of service across our footprint,” said Martha L. Thompson, chair, Balch & Bingham Women’s Initiative.

Events include:

March 6: Ronald McDonald House, Jackson, Mississippi

Balch attorneys and staff will support the Ronald McDonald House by preparing and serving a meal.  The Ronald McDonald House serves as a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children who must travel to Jackson for medical care.  It is a home where families can reside in a caring and comfortable environment; share their fears and concerns; receive the support of others who are in similar circumstances; and gain strength during the most difficult time in their lives.

March 8: One Place Family Justice Center, Birmingham, Alabama

Attorneys, clients and friends of Balch will enhance the center’s landscaping and create hospitality bags for clients. One Place provides coordinated services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault through a multi-disciplinary team of professionals working together under one roof. The organization removes barriers to reporting interpersonal violence in our community. One Place is a collaboration between the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, City of Birmingham-Birmingham Police Department, YWCA Central Alabama, and the Crisis Center, Inc.

March 8: Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Gulfport, Mississippi

Balch will participate in Habitat for Humanity Women Build projects in Ocean Springs and Gulfport. Habitat Women Build works toward our vision by building strength, stability and self-reliance in partnership with families in need of decent and affordable housing.

March 11: International Women’s House, Atlanta, Georgia

Our Atlanta office will support International Women’s House by creating toiletry kits for homeless women.  International Women’s House provides a safe haven and supportive services for women and children who are victims of family violence, sexual abuse, and human trafficking, with a focus on immigrant and refugee women and children, cultural sensitivity, and self-sufficiency.
