Balch's David Bowsher Contributes to 2021 Editions of Strategic Alternatives For And Against Distressed Businesses and Commercial Bankruptcy Litigation

David Bowsher, partner in the firm's Birmingham and Houston offices, has co-authored the 2021 editions of Strategic Alternatives For And Against Distressed Businesses by publisher Thomson West and Commercial Bankruptcy Litigation by publisher Clark Boardman Callaghan. A skilled adviser on oil and gas acquisitions and financing, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy matters, David co-authored three chapters in Strategic Alternatives and one chapter in Commercial Bankruptcy Litigation on distressed companies and bankruptcy-related issues.

Strategic Alternatives is a thorough overview of corporate restructuring and insolvency. David served as the principal author for "Chapter 16: Perspectives: Buyers," which provides guidance for potential purchasers of a distressed company or a significant part of a distressed company. He also co-authored state-specific chapters on receiverships and assignments for the benefit of creditors, "Chapter 18: Alabama Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors" and "Chapter 38: Alabama Receiverships."

Commercial Bankruptcy Litigation contains contributions from some of the nation's top bankruptcy litigators and covers topics from general bankruptcy and procedure to appeals. David co-authored "Chapter 17: Credit Bidding in Plan Sales," which details a particular aspect of how creditors are treated in certain bankruptcy acquisitions.
 
A senior U.S. Department of Commerce official during President George W. Bush's Administration, David is now a member of the firm's Oil & Gas, Mergers & Acquisitions and Creditors Rights & Bankruptcy practices. David has worked with oil and gas companies in operations in Texas and elsewhere; represented both buyers and sellers through middle-market deals; and developed particular experience in §363 asset sales in bankruptcy cases. Additionally, David's extensive corporate and transactional experience includes securities offerings, financing transactions and capital raising efforts.
David serves in a number of professional affiliations, including Secretary of the Duke Law Alumni Association the President for the Republican National Lawyers Association. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America®, Super Lawyers and the Birmingham Business Journal.
