Balch is one of the leading firms in the world in the nuclear arena. The firm has been deeply involved in the nuclear power industry in the United States and Europe, representing businesses in the development of new nuclear facilities, including licensing and equipment procurement, as well as in a variety of traditional licensing, enforcement and rulemaking proceedings before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Our attorneys frequently appear before other federal and state agencies and courts in proceedings critical to the nuclear industry. We also provide counsel regarding the myriad of issues that confront participants in this complex industry.

In the electricity arena, Balch represents clients across the full spectrum of industry investors and participants, ranging from investor- and publicly-owned electric utilities, investment funds, independent power producers and renewable and energy storage projects, and trade associations.  Balch’s electricity regulation and litigation practice is national in scope and includes high stakes federal and state regulatory proceedings and investigations, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance and policy formation, virtual PPAs, interconnection and shared facility arrangements, joint-use arrangements, fuel and services contracts and labor relations. Our attorneys include some of the industry’s leading practitioners before state and federal courts, state public utility commissions, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Commodities Futures and Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Moreover, the firm is frequently engaged by global electricity sector investors and participants to advise on emerging issues and associated strategies.
