Ian Burt, attorney in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Real Estate Practice, is participating in the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s 2025 Leadership Challenge in Birmingham. This annual initiative brings together emerging business and community leaders committed to raising awareness and vital funds to support those affected by multiple sclerosis (MS).
As part of this year’s class, Ian has accepted the challenge to raise funds for groundbreaking research and life-changing programs for individuals living with MS. His involvement reflects a personal commitment to advancing the Society’s mission: to cure MS while empowering those affected to live their best lives.
MS is a chronic autoimmune disease that impacts the brain and spinal cord, affecting approximately 1 in 500 people in the U.S. While treatments have progressed dramatically in recent decades, there is still no cure. The Leadership Challenge helps accelerate progress toward that goal by equipping leaders like Ian to fundraise, advocate, and serve as champions for those impacted.
In his legal practice, Ian focuses on all aspects of real estate transactions including acquisition, financing and development. He also advises clients throughout the lifecycle of a real estate project, including review and analysis of due diligence materials. His previous experience in the public sector gives him a unique perspective that allows him to better serve clients.
Ian’s service continues Balch’s support for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Our own Andy Tunnell is currently serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s (NMSS) Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter. In 2024, Balch’s Robert Humphrey and Brandi A. Russell participated in the Leadership Challenge.
