Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Jon Trotta has joined the firm’s Birmingham office as a partner in its globally ranked Energy Practice. Focusing his practice on regulatory and transactional matters in the electric and natural gas industries, Jon brings deep experience advising investor-owned utilities, project developers and industrial end users on complex energy matters.
He has significant experience appearing before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in policy, regulatory and litigated proceedings and advises clients on issues involving electric transmission and interconnection, wholesale power markets, electric and gas tariffs and rates, and operations.
Before entering private practice, Jon served as an Attorney-Advisor at FERC, where he worked closely on wholesale power market development, electric transmission and battery storage issues. Jon’s clients benefit from his practical, insider perspective on federal energy regulation and his nearly 20 years of industry experience.

Jon received his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. He has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America® for Energy Law and has served on the Suffolk University Law School Alumni Association Board, including as President and Board Chair, and was named to the D.C. Bar Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll.
