Balch & Bingham Strengthens Issues & Appeals Practice with Addition of Marnie McCormick in Austin

Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Marnie McCormick has joined the firm’s Austin, Texas office as a member of the firm’s Issues & Appeals Practice. She brings more than 25 years of experience guiding clients through complex civil appeals and litigated matters involving utilities and other heavily regulated industries in Texas and federal jurisdictions.

Marnie’s practice centers on appellate advocacy, complex motion practice, and administrative law. She has significant experience representing Texas utilities in litigation involving infrastructure development and property rights disputes, including matters related to easements and land acquisition.

In addition to her appellate work, Marnie advises clients on administrative law principles and constitutional issues that arise in regulatory disputes. She works closely with trial and regulatory teams to develop strategy, distill complicated legal issues, and present clear, persuasive arguments for courts and decision-makers.

“Marnie’s depth of appellate experience and her ability to bring clarity to complex regulatory and constitutional issues make her a great asset to our team,” said Jason Tompkins, Chair of Balch’s Issues & Appeals Practice.

“I’m excited to join a firm with such a deep and talented bench,” Marnie said. “I enjoy working through complex legal questions, simplifying them, and helping clients navigate difficult regulatory and litigation challenges. Balch’s strength in the energy sector and its cross-practice collaboration align perfectly with my experience and approach.”

Marnie received her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. She has been recognized for excellence by The Best Lawyers in America® for Administrative/Regulatory Law and has been named among Texas Monthly’s Top Women Lawyers and Super Lawyers. She is active in the Austin Bar Association Civil Appellate Section; the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section and Administrative and Public Law Section, where she serves as a Council Member.

Balch’s Issues & Appeals Practice brings deep appellate insight and strategic focus to every stage of litigation. The team represents clients in appellate courts nationwide—including the Supreme Court of the United States—and works closely with trial counsel to shape the record, preserve error, and position cases for success on appeal. From briefing and oral argument to amicus strategy and multi-jurisdictional coordination, the group is known for its rigorous issue development, clear advocacy, and ability to develop and present winning arguments in complex, high-stakes appeals.
