Sarah Hoffmann Joins Balch to Expand Corporate & Commercial Practice

Balch & Bingham is pleased to welcome Sarah Hoffmann to the firm's Birmingham office as a partner in the Corporate and Commercial Practice.

"I am pleased to welcome Sarah to Balch," said Stan Blanton, managing partner. "Her deep knowledge of tax matters and ERISA will complement the firm's capabilities and be beneficial to our clients."

Sarah focuses her practice on tax matters, with emphasis on executive compensation matters, the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, and other tax considerations that arise during mergers & acquisitions. She has deep experience creating charitable family foundations and has created, qualified and advised more than 50 tax-exempt organizations. She primarily represents tax-exempt and closely held businesses, as well as individual executives who lead those businesses. Sarah joins Balch after gaining nearly a decade of tax law experience at a firm in Birmingham, where she was a member of their business services group.

Sarah received her J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School, where she served as the Student Notes Editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law and was a William A. McDonnell and an ENGAGE Scholar. She also received her LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Alabama.

Sarah is a former adjunct professor at the Birmingham School of Law, where she taught corporate drafting as an upper level writing seminar. Additionally, Sarah is a founding member of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra’s (ASO) Junior Patrons, an initiative for young music lovers who seek to provide meaningful, affordable access to the ASO. In 2021 and 2022, Sarah was named “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers in America and was also recognized as one of the “Rising Stars for Law” from the Birmingham Business Journal in 2018.

Balch’s Corporate and Commercial Practice continues to attract outstanding talent. Sarah addition follows the addition of Katie Kimbrell, partner, who recently joined the practice in Birmingham from Protective Life Corporation.

Members of Balch’s Corporate & Commercial Practice are actively engaged in the formation of business entities and in advising clients in a wide variety of corporate transactions, mergers & acquisitions, corporate financings, and securities law compliance matters. The firm also regularly advises public and private companies with respect to state law fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders, directors’ and officers’ liability, inquiries from analysts and the financial press, mergers and acquisitions, corporate borrowings and banking relationships, securities law compliance, tax matters, executive compensation matters, and other corporate governance and general corporate matters.
