Balch & Bingham is pleased to announce that Katie Kimbrell, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Corporate & Commercial Practice, has been named by the Birmingham Business Journal as a 2023 honoree on its “NextGen Law” list, an award recognizing lawyers under 40 years old who are the future of the legal profession in Birmingham.
Birmingham Business Journal called this year’s honorees “young, eager and successful” attorneys who “will be guiding the legal landscape of Birmingham for time to come.” Honorees were selected based on their contributions to the firm, tangible results in their practice areas and involvement in the community, among other factors.
Katie’s excellence in service to her clients, coupled with her tireless contributions to her community and leadership at Balch & Bingham demonstrate why she is a rising star in the legal field.
She has a diverse practice with a focus on corporate, securities, and financial services. Clients seek her assistance in all phases of their businesses, from formation to due diligence to regulatory compliance to securities and litigation. She regularly advises and assists clients in a wide variety of complex transactions and all aspects of mergers and acquisitions for public and private companies. She also has extensive experience providing guidance and counsel on legal, compliance and regulatory issues in highly-regulated industries (e.g., energy and insurance) and self-regulatory organizations (SROs). Over the last decade, Katie has developed an expertise in securities matters.
Before joining Balch in 2022, Katie was in-house counsel for an insurance company where she served as the primary legal counsel for the company’s broker-dealer, RIA, brokerage general agency (BGA) and insurance distribution channels in all aspects.
Katie is passionate about giving back to her community and mentoring aspiring and new attorneys to help them realize and achieve their full potential.
Her proven leadership skills, along with her passion for helping other women succeed, landed her the position as Chair of Balch & Bingham’s Women’s Initiative in April, 2023. The group actively supports women lawyers through cross-office friendship, mentorship and sponsorship, leads a robust women’s mentoring program that fosters opportunities for career growth and advancement.
Her servant leadership is also visible through her work with the Birmingham Bar Association (BBA), where she serves as Chair of the Business Section and is a member of the BBA’s Executive Committee and Women’s Section. Through the years, Katie gained the reputation at the BBA as being a dependable and cheerful volunteer who would take on hard jobs, including serving as membership chair for several years.
Katie’s long resume of charitable work clearly demonstrates her passion for serving the Birmingham Community. Her volunteer leadership positions include organizations such as Birmingham Volunteer Lawyer Program, the Young Supporters Board of the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Alabama Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
