Law360 Covers Clark Watson’s return to Balch & Bingham

Clark Watson, counsel in the Birmingham office and member of the Banking & Financial Services and Corporate & Commercial Practices, was quoted in Law360 about his decision to return to Balch & Bingham and how he plans to use his prior experience to serve the firm’s clients.

The article published August 8, 2023 referenced Clark’s time as partner at Balch until 2015, when he left to become General Counsel at Samford University.

"I am pleased to be able to return to Balch & Bingham," Law360 quoted Clark as saying. "I know firsthand the excellence, value, and client service Balch provides. I look forward to collaborating with my firm colleagues and clients to deliver exceptional counsel to some of the most respected businesses and financial institutions across the nation."

During the eight and half years he spent as Samford's General Counsel, Clark worked with the university's executive leadership, trustees, faculty and other stakeholders on matters such as board procedures and policies, shared governance, regulatory compliance, accreditation, promotions, tenure, investigations, college athletics and intellectual property.  While a Balch partner, Watson was a member of the Samford University Board of Trustees, including four terms as Board Chair. This experience helped provide him a broad perspective on how to best advise clients in any given situation.

Law360 quoted Clark saying "Throughout my years in firm practice and as in-house counsel for a private university, I have made it a point of emphasis to learn from clients, industry and community leaders, and other attorneys. Business law is best practiced through collaboration and clear communication among all participants and stakeholders, whether it is the creation of an LLC, a commercial loan, an equity financing, or the acquisition or sale of a business."

"We are pleased to welcome Clark back to Balch," Law360 quoted managing partner Stan Blanton as saying. "With his vast experience and diverse background advising businesses and nonprofit organizations, Clark brings a wealth of knowledge. We are confident that Clark's arrival will further strengthen our capabilities and benefit our clients."

Clark advises businesses, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, and individuals on varied legal matters including organization, governance, commercial transactions, corporate finance, and regulatory compliance. His practice has included an array of business acquisitions, divestitures, equity and debt financings, and reorganizations.
