Jeremy Retherford Co-Chairs the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Southeast Workshop

Jeremy Retherford, partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and co-chair of the Banking & Financial Services Practice, served as co-chair for the American Bankruptcy Institute’s Southeast Workshop.  Working with his co-chair and the Workshop’s Advisory Board, Jeremy helped develop programming for the event hosted by the nation’s largest association of bankruptcy professionals.      

Drawing on more than 20 years of experience in bankruptcy and restructuring matters, Jeremy utilized his industry perspective to help shape a program focused on pressing issues facing bankruptcy professionals and their clients. Jeremy's appointment as co-chair further reinforces his standing as a leading contributor to the bankruptcy and restructuring industry. "Having the opportunity to help shape this year's workshop was an honor and a rewarding experience," Jeremy said. "Bringing together professionals from across our community to share our experiences and ideas is what makes this event so impactful and ultimately helps us better serve our clients."

The event, held on July 23 in Amelia Island, Florida, brought together more than 300 attorneys, consultants, and judges to discuss their perspectives, insights, and strategies for helping clients navigate financial challenges and restructuring opportunities. 

At Balch, Jeremy serves clients in matters focused on bankruptcy and insolvency matters. In addition to representing lenders and creditors in workouts, bankruptcy, and non-bankruptcy insolvency proceedings, Jeremy also works with distressed companies in navigating insolvency issues as well as investors in acquiring assets in and out of bankruptcy. 

Jeremy was recognized as Lawyer of the Year in Birmingham for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law in the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America^®. He is also ranked by Chambers USA for his work in Bankruptcy/Restructuring.
