Balch Attorneys Recognized As Top Women Attorneys by B-Metro

Balch congratulates the nine attorneys who were recognized as Top Women Attorneys by B-Metro in the magazine’s August 2019 edition. The feature recognized women across Birmingham who have successful legal practices, as well as a demonstrated commitment to their community and profession.

The Balch attorneys recognized as Top Women Attorneys by B-Metro include:

Amy Adams
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Estate Planning & Trusts Practice, focuses her practice on estate planning, probate, trust, and estate litigation. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.  

Leslie Allen
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Energy Practice, advises nuclear and hydroelectric utilities on regulatory, licensing, compliance, and environmental issues. She draws from a background in environmental law to provide unique insight on compliance.

Kelly Gwathney
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Corporate Practice, represents private and public companies, investment funds and other institutional investors in a full range of business transactions across industries, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions and financings for independent power generation assets. 

Debra Lewis
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Banking & Financial Services Practice and chair of the firm’s regulatory and transactions practice group. Debra focuses her practice on complex transactions and advising her clients on various state and federal regulations. She is recognized for her sophisticated approach and dedicated awareness of emerging trends that impact her client’s industries. She is civically engaged in the Birmingham community, and serves as a member of Balch’s Executive Committee and as the firm’s retention and engagement officer.

Angela Luckett
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Energy Practice, is a commercial transactional attorney who provides comprehensive legal counsel to electric utility companies. She is skilled at negotiation, drafting, and reviewing commercial agreements in a wide range of subject areas. 

Mary Samuels
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Environmental & Natural Resources Practice, focuses on regulatory compliance and permitting matters under numerous federal and state environmental laws, as well as general indoor air quality issues (mold, asbestos, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance). 

Monica Sargent
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Energy Practice and Corporate Finance & Securities Practice, represents clients in corporate and securities transactions, including public offerings and private placements of debt, equity and hybrid securities, project-related financings, and mergers and acquisitions with a substantial portion of her work focused in the energy industry.  

Pam Smith
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Corporate Finance & Securities Practice, practices intellectual property law, focusing on trademark, copyright, and licensing issues.  Pam counsels businesses of all sizes in a variety of industries on protecting, enforcing, and maximizing the value of their brands and intellectual property assets from conception through commercialization.

Martha Thompson
Partner in the firm’s Birmingham office and member of the Litigation Practice, has tried to verdict numerous cases involving a variety of employment and medical malpractice issues. She regularly represents clients in complex personal injury, property damage, product liability, and wrongful death cases.  Martha also is chair of Balch’s Women’s Initiative.
