GAO Issues Report on TVA Critical Infrastructure Control Systems

On May 21, 2008, in response to a Subcommittee request, the GAO issued a report on TVA’s compliance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards (which apply to federal agencies such as TVA and are generally perceived to be stricter than the NERC CIP Standards.). In the report, GAO is critical of TVA’s security measures and find that TVA is not in full compliance with the NIST standards. GAO makes 19 public recommendations for TVA.
